why is wisdom tooth removal important

Wisdom tooth or third molar is the last permanent tooth to appear in the mouth. it erupts usually between age of 17 to 25 years. When there is not enough space for tooth to erupt in mouth, it is considered Impacted. An impacted wisdom tooth may grow at an angle towards next tooth (2nd Molar) or it may be lying down within jaw bone. An Impacted tooth may cause pain and gum infection, trapping food debris behind wisdom tooth, pressure on other teeth, damage to a nearby tooth or surrounding bone, development of cyst around wisdom tooth, or complication with orthodontic treatment to straighten other teeth. Wisdom tooth removal is done by oral surgeons and it is done under local anaesthesia.
